BJ Palmer’s 1934 publication “The Subluxation Specific – The Adjustment Specific” refers nerve interference as a subluxation. Thus, a Chiropractic-Vertebral Subluxation is something that interferes with nerve transmission. It is also considered that the “interference” must be demonstrable.
Later in the 1990’s Brain research and neuroscience has expanded to include the then groundbreaking idea of neuroplasticity.This is the idea that the brain and nerve system adapts to its enviroment thoughout life. You can create room for learning and adaptablity. Sometimes the nerve system is also shown to be in sustained high alert, however, research into nerve system behaviuor also shows you reset and relax.
In 1993, the Shimizu Reflex, named after Japanese neurologist “Shimizu” was demonstrated as new reflex when assessing compressive pathology in the brainstem and upper medulla, and it was also present in participants in the study with no brainstem/upper medulla pathology present.
The Shimizu Reflex has now been used in combination with biomechanical dysfunction and other somatic findings associated with Upper Cervical subluxation to direct discision making. Neuro-Impulse Protocol (NIP) practitioners use the aforementioned assessment information to apply precise low-force chiropractic adjustments to help your body relax.
