If you live here like us, then you’ll probably also appreciate the dramatic cliffs, wild seas, and sandy beaches. Abbortsham Cliffs and Green Cliffs, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands, and Croyde Bay are some of our favourite beaches to walk along, swim, or surf.

North Devon has many natural features ranging from biodiverse sand dunes at Braunton Burrows to rock pools and rocky coves along the Coastal Path. The Tarka Trail footpath and cycleway passes the riverfront and Medieval Town of Barnstaple. In the 14th century, there began a history of exporting wool, which started to bring great wealth to the area.

There was also once a harbour here. However, it silted up. Meaning other industries had a chance to establish themselves: shipbuilding, foundries, and sawmills. The Victorian Pannier Market is still in use today and is a hub of activity throughout the week. Click here to see some Barnstaple photos, old and new. Today, Barnstaple, like many of the larger towns in Devon, is a mix of creativity, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and more. We boast a great mix of people, all ages, and diversity.

Of course, in the summer months, Devon’s beautiful coastline and countryside attract a welcome influx of holidaymakers. But, as you know, the secret is: every day is a good day to be in or visit the South West of England!
